IBIZ

Imagine a city filled with neighborhood districts supporting unique, independent businesses serving the needs of local customers as shopping destinations, social gathering places and centers for neighborhood culture. AIBA is working a plan to designate neighborhood districts Independent Business Investment Zones or IBIZ districts. These areas may range from a few blocks to a larger zone and will seek to foster successful independent businesses. Pedestrian friendly, ample parking, accessible by public transportation, picturesque with landscaping and pocket parks, these districts would be home to an exciting variety of locally owned businesses offering a unique variety of goods and services not found in chain stores or big box retailers.

Currently in its inception, IBIZ districts could help change the trend of the loss of independent retailers to big box and chain developments. If Austin loses its independent businesses, it loses its character and becomes "Anywhere, USA". Working together to create IBIZ districts, we can help prevent this loss.
